Well, it's not a common role in Australia, with its activities distributed across other executives. Put simply the Chief Revenue Officer is the probably only stand alone role that looks at the "go-to-market" process in the same holistic way that the CEO does.
The CRO often identifies key relationships, with a deeper understanding of how they connect to guide a business to revenue pots. They understand the elements of relationship development, foresight, communications, sales, marketing and thought leadership, and use these to advance understanding of the business in a macro playing field.
